1. INLINE ROLLER SKATING - HOW IT LOOKS LIKE?

2. INLINE ROLLER SKATING OR ICE SKATING?

SIMILARITY
* on both you can do the same elements (spins, jumps, steps, spirals)
* on both you use similar technik
* if you can do any element on ice it’s quite easy to do the same on roller skates. Also other side – what you can do on roller skates you will do on ice

DIFFERENCES
* different surfaces. On roller skates there’s nothing which melt so you have bigger friction and need to use more force
* but in the other side the rollers force you to work harder in your knees when you are skating on the edge. And slower spins allow you to get used to the rotation better
* it’s less popular dyscypline than ice skating and not so much developed. You don’t need quadriple or even triple jumps for competing on European or World Championships. Double are also ok!
* more possibilities for off ice training! For ex. there are quite popular jumps in one shoe and one skate. It’s a level between jump off ice and on skates – sometime that’s what you need for your mind and body if you feel fear. Also you can do spins on spinner with one skate – it’s perfect opportunity especially for spins with catching leg like Biellmann Spin

ANOTHER DYSCYPLINE OR PERFECT OFF ICE TRAINIG WHEN YOU DON’T HAVE ICE?
Both! It’s quite easy to join this sports together and mix ice with inline. There is quite similar techniqe so you will not learn from beginnig but improve your skills all the time. It depends only of you. You can use inline roller skating only during summer, when you don’t have ice as off ice training. But also you can focus on it more and try to compete on inline roller skating competitions. Just for fun or in international level.

3. SHOES - WHICH ONE YOU SHOULD CHOOSE?

For inline artistic we use the same shoes as for ice skating (exception Roll Line Frame which often requires shoes from roll collection due to it’s construction. But for other frames you can use normal shoes you use on ice).
* The model of the shoe will depend on your body weight and skills. Bigger weight, bigger skills –> harder shoes
* Remember that roller skates generate higher loads when leaning sideways (this applies especially to 3-wheel models with low stiffness of the shoe) – so if you use 3 wheels blades it’s better to buy shoes a little stiffer than those in which you skate. In 4 wheels blades you can use the same shoes as on ice
* Also not every shoe model compares to inline frames! Shoe producents attach info about it on their webside next to description of the model. Ask people in the shop where you buy blades if it compare you are not sure. They have the biggest knowledge.
* Remember about that in the beginning your skills goes really fast. If you are child probably you will change skates every season because your foot is growing – so you can also increase stiffness of your schoe. But if you are adult – you will go fast from beginning till stern 3. So don’t buy shoes with stiffness less then 40/50 if you don’t want to change your shoes every year.

THE SAME SHOES FOR ICE SKATING AND ROLLER SKATING AND CHANGE ONLY BLADE 2 TIMES PER SEASON – IT IS POSSIBLE?
No! You can change blades but only about 2-3 times per 1 pair of shoes. This is because the blades are screwed on and holes are made from the screws. Therefore, frequent turning will cause an unstable hold of the shoe and blade. If you are buying your first roller frames – you can use the shoes you have with your skates. But for the winter season, you should buy new skate shoes. In this way, you will spread the costs associated with the equipment.

4. ALL ABOUT BLADES

WHY THERE ARE SO SPECIAL THAT YOU CAN DO THE SAME ELEMENTS ON THEM AS ON ICE?

  1. rocker (wheels are not in the same level) – very similar to rocker you have on blades. That’s why 3turns and other steps are possible on them
  2. Toe stop – like picks on ice blade. For jumps but also you use it for spins to make them easier

4  WHEELS OR  3  WHEELS?

First it depends of your foot size. RollEXX have sizes between 210 and 300 (measuring in mm length of your shoe sole outside shoe). For smaller foots you need 3wheel. Over 210 you can choose.

Rollers with 3 wheels will be more maneuverable, which will make it easier to perform all steps and turns. But also you feel as being really high and unstable so you need harder shoe than on ice and it’s harder to change often ice skates and roller skates. That’s why competitors who ate training only on roller skates (without ice) usually choose 3 wheels skates.

Rollers with 4 wheels will be more stable, which will certainly be felt when landing jumps and easier switching from iceskates to rollers, but taking steps will require a bit more force. You don’t need as hard shoe as for 3wheels – so you can use your old skating shoe (and for new season buy new shoe for ice blades)

TYPES OF BLADES
